About NewMexicoKidsCAN

Our Vision
An education system that prioritizes what students need to succeed and thrive over adult convenience and special interests.
Our Mission
NewMexicoKidsCAN serves as a catalyst and conduit to advocate for community-informed, student-centered and research-backed education policies that work best for the children of New Mexico. Connecting policy, instructional practice and politics, we work to reimagine what is possible in New Mexico’s public education system.

Believe in Better
The local advocacy campaigns across the 50CAN network are based in states all across the country, from Hawaii to Georgia, and Connecticut to Louisiana. Despite the differences in local contexts, our campaigns are united in working to deliver on 5 promises to America’s children:
Our Pillars
NewMexicoKidsCAN believes that students—current and future—must remain at the center of all education decisions. Thus, our work is rooted in four change lenses:
- Community: Effective, sustainable policy change in New Mexico requires community ownership and collaboration.
- Pluralism: New Mexico needs a dynamic education system that supports many different paths to success.
- Competition: Empowered New Mexico parents with many high-quality school options will drive better outcomes for students.
- Performance: Our leaders need the tools and authority to effectively manage their districts, schools and classrooms.
